The“README!” mural by GOLDEN GREEN in Mannheim
In October 2023, Moritz Green, also known as GOLDEN GREEN, created an impressive mural titled “README!” at Mittelstraße 44 in Mannheim’s Neckarstadt district. The mural was created during the first OPEN URBAN ART EXCHANGE (link!) in October 2023, an event organized for the first time by STADT.WAND.KUNST. This international gathering brought together artists, organizers, and street art fans from the Netherlands, Finland, Jordan, Serbia, and Germany to exchange ideas about urban art and generate new inspiration together.
The artist from Hamburg was captivated by the very first photo of the facade. He was particularly fascinated by the architectural structure of the wall: not a smooth surface, but a “framed” composition with corners and edges—an appealing challenge for an artist whose style blends graphic design and graffiti.

GOLDEN GREEN’s works are characterized by graphic elements, abstract forms, and the recurring use of bold colors such as pink, orange, and turquoise, combined with deep black surfaces. The abstract elements are reminiscent of stamp negatives or oversized typographic fragments. Viewers can recognize a kind of “lettering” in them—not as clearly legible text, but as abstracted symbols that nonetheless evoke classic tagging from graffiti culture.
The abstract letters in his Mannheim mural are not chosen at random: they have a thematic connection to the surroundings—namely, the Neckartstadt-West neighborhood library, located on the first floor of the building. GOLDEN GREEN’s encrypted letters contain the call “README!” and thus establish an artistic connection to the theme of reading and understanding. Just as books are read and interpreted, graffiti also wants to be perceived and understood, according to the artist. His aim is to view graffiti not merely as mere scribbling, but as a form of visual communication that strives for attention, interpretation, and meaning.
With “README!”, GOLDEN GREEN has created a work that not only stands out visually but also stimulates a deeper engagement with art, language, and perception through its content. It is an example of how modern mural art not only enriches public space visually but also raises questions and sparks discussions.
